Back in 2014 the multi-space ArtTe opened in Barcelona, on the street Muntaner 83, in between Aragó and Valencia.
ArtTe is 400m2 New York inspired local that´s divided into three different areas.
The first is a white painted space with modern art on the walls that works as the café –the bar was the clients pop in from the street to enjoy fresh juices and smoothies made with fruit and veggie, wheatgrass shots and healthy styled sandwiches.
The second space is the teashop and lab inspired by the old Asian tea salons, it has a tranquil ambience with less direct sunlight, wooden shelves and copper piping details.
At ArtTe they sell over 80 different kinds of teas from China, India, Japan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Africa, and here you get professional help to find the blend that suits your taste.
They also do 2 1/2 hour long workshops were the participants learns about the history of tea, how to prepare the different kinds and understand their characteristics and origins. To find out more about the workshops check out ArtTe’s website.
The third space opens up to the restaurant area with light simmering in from the skylight in the ceiling. The furniture is a mix and match, which includes Chesterfield sofas and armchairs, leather and wooden chairs, the walls are white painted and decorated with art.
There´s a permanent stage for live concerts, for more information about the different concerts check out ArtTe’s website.
The interior design at ArtTe is entirely done by the famous Catalan firm Lázaro Rosa-Violán that also done places like El National, Cotton Club hotel, Toto and Sirvent in Barcelona.
I visited ArtTe for lunch midweek and I tried the set lunch, the food was a really good, simple dishes with good flavours.
For the starter, I had the Calçots (Catalan green onion, normally prepared over the open fire) in a way I never have eaten it before. They had prepared the Calçots as Japanese tempura with Romesco sauce, I´m not too fond of fried food but these were perfectly crisp on the outside with a tender inside.
For the main course, I decided on the fish served with a fluffy black potato mash, coloured with squid ink.
For dessert, I had the brownie with raspberries and ice cream, the only down part on the dessert was that it was too big. So when I had come halfway the brownie had absorbed much of the raspberry sauce and became a bit soft. Apart from that a perfect lunch in a stylish atmosphere!
