Bar Angel – humble neighbourhood restaurant occupying a narrow locale on the muted street Ocata 2, next to train station Estació de França. This eatery is flying under the radar even though it’s just a stone throw from the very active Passeig de Born.
At Bar Angel the focus is on popular Spanish food, typical dishes that can be found in modest bars and restaurants across Spain.
The menu is an A4 with a couple of things crossed out, and a few extra specials of the day depending on the market supply.
Taking a look at the A4 we can see that the favorite produce at Bar Angel must be pork, head to tail. We find pig trotter with mushrooms, cap i pota, burger made with meat from 100% acorn feed pigs, presa Iberica/ Boston butt and jowl wrapped scallops.
Don’t fear if you are not pork lover, there are still a good amount of dishes without Spain’s most cherished animal (when it comes to be eaten, that is).
What you say about Sant Pau beans with lobster? These small beans used are grown in charming medieval village Sant Pau in La Garrotxa, Girona north of Barcelona.
Tortilla made a la minute, the day we visited they spiced it up with anchovy.
Italian Tomino cheese served on a bed of zucchini Carpaccio and topped with a drizzle of truffle oil. Who can say no to hot cheese and truffle?
The rustic bread and dessert Mille-feuille comes from the small bakery Vilamala, in front of Vila Viniteca.
The plates are smaller then full size, so works perfect for sharing!
The place is small, and do to it’s off radar location normally you don’t need a reservation. But better safe then sorry, you have the number below.
