Bar Mut has kind of a mystic air to it, maybe it´s just me feeling it? The restaurant with tapas and market cuisine is located on the street Pau Claris 192, corner with Avenida Diagonal.
Every time I pass by Bar Mut I think it looks so cosy. Dim lights, old fashion décor, bar with marble counters, high seats and walls lined with wine bottles. It feels authentic and robust, not the new fake interior design trying to look old.
I did book well in advance for our visit because Bar Mut only has capacity for around 28-30 persons. I have to say I´m glad I did, because the place was packed. A good mix of both national and international costumers made the place feel very cosmopolitan.
The chef´s modern take on traditional tapas and market cuisine sets Bar Mut apart. The menu is written in Catalan ( the waiters translates so no worries) on two big chalkboards, but also they have a couple of daily specials that the waiter will explain as you get seated.
You have the option to order from the menu by your self, or they offer to make a selection for you. Which means that the waiter at Bar Mut will make a special mix of dishes depending on your preferences, which can be really good if your not up for ordering your self.
On the wallet on the other hand it might fall heavy, as you don´t know which tapas they organize for you.
We ordered a selection of five tapas, which for us were perfect. First out were grilled prawns and ceviche Mut (14,30€), both fresh and tasty.
After came the grilled octopus served with potato and fried with small pieces of chorizo (19,80€), which elevated the flavours.
The carpaccio d´ou ferrats (13,90€) it´s one of their classics and has been on the menu since Bar Mut opened, which is basically a carpaccio on egg yolks served with mini julienne sliced potato and shrimp. It may sound plain and boring, but oh no, its delicious!
The last dish we tried at Bar Mut was tonyina de Mut, tuna with a think layer of tempura, it was good, it could have been slightly warmer to get all the flavours to sparkle more.
Even though every dish was great, for me the ones that stood out the most at the dinner in flavour were the ceviche Mut and the octopus with potato and chorizo.
Bar Mut might not be for every pocket, but for a special occasion with a loved one or family I think it´s spot on.
