The narrow streets in the Born locked in by Santa Maria del Mar Cathedral, the busy street of the Picasso museum, Princesa and Argenteria are becoming my favourite places to stroll, to explore and find new independent stores. Just about two months ago the block got a new member, CLAY on Banys Vells 11, just a stone throw from the stores La Tercera, Colmado, Ivori, La Clinique and the wine bar El Soplo.
The space of the locale is amazing, the raw walls, the old cracked floor and the wooden beams in the ceiling. I get the feeling the three owners of CLAY found a rough diamond. I don´t think they have done much to the place, but no need because its absolutely perfect, I could move straight in!
The three owners of CLAY, which are all creative minds; Helena from Madrid – designer, Gustavo from Cadiz – interior decorator and Paula Andrea from Colombia – artisan.
They joined forces to create this space where they get inspired under the mantle of the Mediterranean with all its nuances, colours, flavour and shapes. At CLAY they sell their own designs and external brands that work with the same philosophy.
In the store we can find beautiful ceramic designed by the owners of CLAY them self and manufactured in the south of Spain. Andrea works her magic producing silver items and Helena designing jewellery under the name SU.
From Turkey they bring artisan cotton fabrics in vivid colours, hand blown glass from Syria, a small selection of handpicked cloths brands from showrooms in Paris, skincare products from the Danish brand Meraki and the French brand La Petite Papeterie Française that manufacture notebooks, agendas and calendars.
