Due Spaghi, Italian Catalan restaurant, Sant Antoni

The restaurant Due Spaghi brings together traditional Italian and Catalan cuisine in the neighbourhood Sant Antoni in Barcelona.

Nicoletta Acerbi from the region Emilia Romagna, Italy a former photographer and food critic, together with Toni from Catalonia, with a background from the hostelry business, decided to pursue the dream of their own locale. Together they opened the restaurant Due Spaghi.

In the kitchen, we find the Italian chef Paolo Mangianti, whom after travelling the world filling himself with inspiration decided to settle down in the Catalan capital Barcelona.

The cuisine at Due Spaghi is a far cry from the “typical” Italian pizza, the team cares about every detail of what comes into their kitchen. They work with the food concept Slow Food, was; good, clean and fair are the three interconnected principals. They want to have a personal link to the farmers and their produce.

On our visit we decided to try a few starters to share instead of a main each. Every combination on the menu sounded tempting, but we finally narrowed it down to four dishes.

Neither of us was starving, but if you come with an appetite I would recommend you to order more plates or a starter and a main.

Just a short while after we ordered, out came a small appetizer on the house, a pepper cream with a Kale chip. For me personally that really sets the tone for the restaurant, it´s the small gestures and details that go a long way.

Tomino with speck, maitake and mushroom sauce at Due Spaghi

First out Due Spaghi was the Bresaola with green apple, sun-dried tomatoes and Romesco(8,50€), the Italian meat worked wonderfully with the Catalan sauce.  The second dish was a surprise at least for me, it sounded delicious on the menu and it was, Tomino cheese with speck, maitake and mushroom sauce (11,50€).

Marinated white fish

Moving on, and out came the white fish marinated with basil, lemon and red onion and topped with samphire greens (14€), fresh, simple and so good.

Tatin with burrata stracciatella at Due Spaghi, Barcelona

The last dish; onion tatin topped with burrata stracciatella, drizzled olive oil and rosé pepper (7€). The crisp tatin meeting that creamy burrata, bliss!

The atmosphere is relaxed and informal at Due Spaghi, we felt as we visited an old friends house, the staff are genuinely warm and welcoming.

It´s the ideal restaurant to meet up friends or family for some heart-warming food, for sure you will not leave disappointed!
