The up and coming neighbourhood Poblenou is slowly changing, it used to be the industrial district of Barcelona. Back in the days giants like the Catalan daily newspaper La Vanguardia had its printing factory just one block from the street Rambla del Poblenou. Where the shopping centre Les Glòries is located, it used to be the factory of the famous typewriters Olivetti.
El 58 – Le Cinquante Huit
Now thou the district is different, new cool places are opening non stop. One restaurant that´s been around since 2013 and doing a great job is El 58 – Le Cinquante Huit on the street Rambla del Poblenou.
The place is shyly decorated; the vintage tables and chairs make me think of an old café in Paris, tables made with white marble and brown wooden chairs. In the far back there´s a terrace to enjoy all year around.
One´s seated the waiter brings the menu written on a big chalkboard, it´s hard to decide, so many mouthwatering dishes to choose from, like Patatas Bravas with their special tomato sauce, steamed fresh mussels, croquettes rostit or salmon tartar, just to name a few.
If you like me get a melt down because you want it all, ask the waiter to help you out!

EL 58 is great for a Vermut with friends, informal lunch with family or a drink on the terrace at night. The atmosphere is informal and lively.
They don´t take reservations, so if you’re a bigger group make sure to get there on time specially on the weekend.
