Just over four months ago Lucia Lopez opened the doors to the concept store Espai Joliu on the street Badajoz 95 in Poblenou. The locale used to be an old carpenters workshop, now it´s come to life in another form.
The look of the locale of Espai Joliu is spot on, modern and picture perfect in all the senses. Its walls are bare scraped in true industrial feel and the furniture is vintage.
The main focus in the store are the plants. Lucia one of the owners got the inspiration from Berlin where she lived for eight months. Its pace is divided into two areas, the first is the shop with beautiful natural light coming in and in the back the café, with a darker and cosy feel.
The main focus in Espai Joliu as said are green plants, but there´s more to this place, here you can find are art books, magazines (DRIFT, Cereal, Kinfolk), illustrations mainly from artists in Barcelona but also from Valencia and Basque Country and hand made ceramics.
The café offers a simple and short menu with coffee (cortado -1,80€/ flat white – 2,20€) from the Nomad roasters made in the La Marzocca coffee machine (read about the café/showroom True Artisan), beer from Espiga in Sant Llorenç d’Hortons. To chew on Espai Joliu offers a toast with different toppings like sundried tomato and soft cheese -4,50€. If you’re more into the sweet, they have granola with either yoghurt or milk – 4,50€ or chocolate cookies with or without gluten – 2€.
Espai Joliu doesn’t open on the weekends, but one Sunday a month they do a brunch between 11.00h-15.00h. The brunch works as a free buffet with healthy and tasty salads, bread, cakes, fresh fruit, egg and more.
