Restaurant Ginette is a newbie in Barcelona, just opened a couple of months ago, in a part of Born/Santa Catarina that is blooming. New hotels, refurbished old buildings with high standard flats and restaurants are popping up in the area faster than fast.

For being a new kid on the block they seem to be doing really good, I walked by various times and there is always a crowd.  The locale of Ginette is cosy and intimate, the interior design is well thought through. From the floor, wallpaper, tables, sofas, plates, cutlery and the dim lights, you can tell they know how to turn up the modern cosiness.

Ginette is a small neighbourhood restaurant with French cuisine but mixing in the Catalan and Spanish kitchen. So there is something for everyone.

On the menu, there are various options; for the less hungry, a selection of tapas, cheese and cold cuts. For the ones with more appetite; à la carte. On the weekdays they also offer today’s menu for 14,90€ and on the weekend they serve up brunch.

To enjoy the food they have a selection of French and Spanish wines.


On our visit, we opted to go straight for the à la carte since we eat way too much cheese, cold cut and tapas on a regular basis.
For starters; roasted beetroot with goat cheese and toasted hazelnuts 7€, and deviled eggs 7€ caught our eye.

For mains, we did a surf and turf. Cod with beurre meuniere or browned butter sauce served with seasonal vegetables 17€, and dry-aged beef served with a red wine reduction and roasted potatoes 20€. The later for me was the best of our selection of dishes. The beef was tender, the potatoes well roasted and the wine reduction spot on.

For dessert, we actually didn’t want anything as we were perfectly satisfied after the other dishes, but hey! when you see chocolate mousse on the menu and you heard it’s supposed to be really good.
We need to have a go. The chocolate mousse served with salted caramel sauce and toasted hazelnuts, was dense, creamy, rich, and yes it was really good, 6€.

Ginette is the first try at the restaurant business for the French duo that normally works in real-estate.
