La Maroteca fish and seafood restaurant serves its daily catch of the freshest fish and seafood from the Catalan coast.
AT FIRST SIGHT – LA MAROTECA FISH AND SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
Restaurant La Maroteca is the first restaurant in Barcelona to be run by a fisherman. The owner Agustí is a fifth-generation fisherman, with family roots from the coastal town of Sant Carles de la Rapita, 2 hours south of Barcelona.
After working from a young age as a fisherman, and 1994 fulfilling his life-dream of becoming a shipowner, Agustí in 2015 decides to turn his life in a new direction. He and his wife Olga open fish and seafood restaurant La Maroteca.
As you walk into La Maroteca you encounter a fish shop counter stacked with ice and topped to the brim with the freshest of fish and seafood like lobster, prawn, grouper, tuna, mussels, scallops and king crab.
Here you pick and chose from the raw fish and seafood displayed. Your order goes into the open kitchen, which is run by Agustís wife Olga. She treats the produce with the highest respect to maintain the flavours and textures.
DISHES TRIED AND TESTED
On our visit, we tried the star dish; raw red prawn that was absolutely delicious! Fried Mediterranean sand eel, king crab beautiful, but good to remember that it’s an expensive dish in general. Grilled red prawns just sprinkled with salt, they are to die for.
