Lluritu, seafood restaurant in Gràcia is located on one of the neighbourhoods quieter streets, away from the mayhem on Plaça de Sol or the busy Carrer Verdi.
AT FIRST SIGHT
As I walked up the street Torrent de les Flors looking for Lluritu, I passed by it, but like a whole block. Didn’t realize until I took out my phone and google mapped it (again). The entrance is small, no shop windows. No decoration except the Lluritu sign above the door (which is probably normal right?).
Entering Lluritu the interior design throws me back in time. Sure the decoration at restaurant lluritu is brand new and fresh. Nevertheless, it takes me back to the good old Spanish “baretos” were the people stood eating and drinking at the bar and threw the debris on the floor.
The “baretos” were the fluorescent lighting was way too white and bright, the long marble bar occupying the entrance, simple wooden chairs, marble tables and the-very-not-useful paper napkins (during a meal where the fingers are used you will probably use a dozen or two) in the back of the locale.
Another wink to the past are the elegant white coats for the waiters with the restaurant’s name embroidered in red and golden buttons.
The short menu is handwritten on an excel chart, were we can choose from an array of fresh seafood. Apart they have a selection of plates that changes daily depending on the market offers that the waiter will tell you on the spot.
The ambience is informal, the people chilled and from what we experienced the majority locals. A great place to devour fresh seafood away from the seafront.
We visited for lunch, there was a crowd, but not busy. Due to the size of Lluritu I would recommend to book in advance if you think to visit on the weekend.
DISHES TRIED AND TESTED
On our visit, we ordered a variety of plates; wedge clams sauteéd with olive oil, garlic and parsley 7,50€, eel salad 6,70€, razor clams 9,80€, cockles 9,50€ and grilled sardines 7,90€.
I could have kept going since seafood is probably my favourite thing in the world. But hey, I needed to save some dishes to try out for next time right?
