Mini guide Formentera – Eat, Drink and stay

We still have half the summer 2017 to go so, here comes Mini guide Formentera. I have had the pleasure to visit this gem of an island various times, and I think it’s time to share some insider tips.

Mini guide Formentera – Eat, Drink and stay – My first time visiting the island back in 2004 was sailing on a pirate boat from Ibiza to Formentera, yes we did only have a pirate flag, which is not aloud, that I know now. The package was obviously not sold to me as pirate boat trip, more like a cruise holiday, think high heels, glamours sequin dress and sipping martini’s ( not that I would say my wardrobe was or is filled of it, but you get the drill).

Between Ibiza and Formentera it’s just a short 30 minute ferry ride, for us it took on our pirate boat 10 hours or maybe more. All the million dollar yachts swooshing by us as they moved at the speed of light, and us almost sailing backwards.

Another time travelling with a group of friends to Formentera, I saw my first ghost as I slept on an air mattress in a old farm house far from civilisation. Yes, after that night I refused to sleep on the mattress. I did not believe in ghost, but after that experience I’m not to sure anymore.

Instead of keep on telling you weird anecdotes from my holidays on Formentera, I will now give you my Mini guide Formentera – Eat drink and stay, to give you some inspiration and ideas for a great holiday on the island.

Formentera has arguably some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, spectacular white sandy beaches with turquoise water.

I recommend to hit different beaches every day, the distances are short and you can experience the whole island in a week. On Wednesday and Sundays at Pilar de la Mola there’s a street market where you an make all kinds of finds; art, clothes and jewelry, much made on the island by the resident artists.

In Sant Frances you can find many stores, so perfect when you feel you need a break from all the sun and beach.

Also visit the light houses around the island, Far de la Mola is famous for being on the cover of Spanish cult movi Lucia y el sexo.

When to go

High season End of Juni, July and August.
Best time for me? Mid May to mid June and September to mid October.

How to get there

From many mayor airports around Europe you can during the summer fly direct to Ibiza. From Evissa Town there are ferries that will get you over in just 30 minutes to Formentera.

Check time table and price on Balearia.com Mediterraneapitiusa.com or Trasmapi.com

To get around

Best way to get around is by scooter or on a bike, since the island is small and main part flat. If you travel with a big suit case, there are of course cars available. The smaller the better to find parking when you hit the different beaches.
