Mini guide La Garrotxa – Eat, drink and stay

Fall is here, well it might not feel like it or look like it, (people are sunbathing down at the beach and we are in the month of November).

However, if you like me love to feel that autumn wind and the satisfaction of putting on a warm jumper, go for long walks in a lush colour changing landscape, enjoy good food, snug up in a sofa with a cup of tea and a good book next to a woodburner, I have the perfect weekend destination for you.

So we leave Barcelona and head up north in Catalonia, towards the boarder to France. The temperature drops and finally I can put it on, the jumper I been secretly squeezing in my hand since we left town.

Our destination: La Garrotxa county.

La Garrotxa county is found in the province of Girona, north-east Catalonia. The county is divided in two contrasting regions; Alta Garrotxa and Baja Garrotxa. Alta Garrotxa presents a rough landscape, deep valleys surrounded by high cliffs and rock walls. The landscape of Baja Garrotxa is softer, were the valleys are flat do to the once active volcanos.

How to get there

The easiest way to get to this part of Catalonia is by car, if you don’t have your own you can easily rent one.
Here you have a link to a couple of sites you can look for cars: Rentalcars, Skyscanner, or why not try the new service Drivy were you hire a car from a local.

Also you can go by bus from Barcelona, by train you can get to Vic or Girona and from bus/taxi to your final destination.

Closest airport; Girona Costa Brava airport or Barcelona’s El Prat airport.
