Summer is here and what is more amazing then a paella by the Mediterranean Sea? I know many of you look for the best and the greatest paellas in Barcelona and along the Catalan coast, so here comes one of them!
In this post I want to lift seafood restaurant Banys Lluis in coastal town Sant Pol de Mar north of Barcelona. The location is right on the beach, you can almost dip your toes in the Mediterranean sea while you savour the fresh seafood and rice dishes, bliss!
The traditional rice dish paella comes from Valencia region, although it’s cooked up over the whole of Spain and that includes Barcelona, Catalonia as well.
Banys Lluis is popular family orientated seafood restaurant, specialized in rice and fideùa dishes. Thanks to their long expertise, 90 years in the business, they know the importance of using fresh quality fish and shell fish, which is mainly locally sourced.
Paella by the sea at Banys Lluis, the perfect Sunday fun experience.
On a Sunday, a small trip out side the city boarders of Barcelona is always welcome. We took the car and headed to Sant Pol de Mar with our reservation at Banys Lluis. We went all in, fried baby squid, red prawns from Arenys 18€, morralla – small fried fish, for starters.
As we had heard wonders of the lobster paella 29,50€/person, of course we had to have it! Good to know if you are heading down the same road as us, don’t wear your Sunday best, it’s a messy business. I had juice running down my forearms as I tried to squeeze and desiccate the last drop out of the poor lobster.
A paella out and about is always great experience, specially when the it’s well made. Rich flavours, rice has absorbed the stock is perfectly cooked, so firm but at the same time juicy. At the bottom of the pan we find the “soccaraet” – the caviar of the Valencians, which should be toasted, not burnt.
Well enough of trying to explain what a paella should be like to me, in short; This lobster paella ticked all my the boxes!
To get to to Banys Lluis is fairly straight forward, by car it’s a 45 minute drive and by train less then an hour from Barcelona.
