Somorrostro, Restaurant, Barceloneta

The other day I met up with a friend for dinner in the district Barceloneta. We didn´t know where to go but she came up with the brilliant idea to try one of the clients restaurants, and luck we did!

The restaurant is called Somorrostro, the owner has recently redone the place and it looks great! As you get in the big wooden doors you have a bar with seats. From here you can see the chefs preparing part of the plates.

The local is a mix and match, very original decoration!  Some walls have wallpapers, some don’t.  In the ceiling they have old doors and chairs hanging, the tables are decorated with painted flowers and on the walls there´s old photos from Barceloneta.

Somorrostro is part of the Slow Food Movement, which is an eco-gastronomic organization which promotes the use of good, clean and fair produce in the kitchen. They promote the KM 0 and organic produced products. They work closely with local farms, livestock farmers and fishermen to offer the best quality.

On the menu there´s a wide selection of small plates that perfect for sharing. You can find dishes based on seafood or meat and there´s also vegetarian possibilities.

You can find Spanish classic plates on the menu such as Padrón Peppers, Iberian Ham with tomato bread and other with the chefs’ personal touch.

All over the dinner experience was great! The atmosphere genuine and friendly, we arrived early but tables filled up fast. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The food was no fuss, full of flavors.

Somorrostro in Barceloneta is worth a visit and I would recommend booking your table in advance!

For starter we had Oysters with Passion Fruit and a Glass of Cava. From there moved on to a variety of plates such as Steamed Seafood Mix that was displayed in a Bamboo steam cooker, which was amazing. Perfectly ripe Tomatoes from their “Can Gallina” Garden. Cod Brandada with Ratatouille, this is a dish made from salted Cod that origins from Basque Country (at least what I´ve been told, correct me I I´m wrong!).  We also tried the Entrecote with mashed potatoes and cheese, the meat very tender and the mash savory.  Or a sweet and perfect end to the meal we tried two different desserts, Apple Tatin with vanilla cream with Almond crumble and a Chocolate mousse with rhubarb, mango and cookies.
