The Market Barcelona is a Peruvian restaurant next to the Jardinets de Gracia. Its location is very central, just in front of 5-star hotel Casa Fuster, also right by the famous streets Passeig de Gracia and Avenida Diagonal.
The restaurant itself is small with dim and cosy lighting. Outside they have a terrace to enjoy during the main part of the year.
When we arrived at the restaurant it was quiet, only a few guests had arrived before us. As soon as we got seated and had ordered, the place started to fill up. The ambience of the restaurant is chic with national and international guests.
The Peruvian kitchen has a broad mix of flavours and ingredients from all over the world, as immigrants brought from Europe, Asia and Africa their traditional cooking. At The Market Barcelona you can savour different Peruvian cuisines as for example from the well know; Japanese/Peruvian – Nikkei and Chinese/Peruvian – Chifa.
The Market Barcelona, Restaurant, Gràcia
We decided to try two of different Ceviche’s between us. The Ceviche in yellow peppers as in Criollos – raw white fish marinated in in lime juice and flavoured with yellow Ají, fresh and spicy. The second Ceviche, Nikkei Peruvian/ Japanese fusion, tuna marinated in lime juice and soya sauce with seaweed, the flavours is a perfect harmony between the two countries.
As for main dish we tried both meat and fish, Stir-fried beef tenderloin with vegetables and Creole marinated sea bass with bean tacu tacu, both of the dishes served with rice.
With these great dishes, the restaurant The Market offers a creative cocktail menu. Here you choose from a variety of combinations with the Peruvian beverage Pisco, which is elaborated from fermented wine of a certain type of grape. Maybe sip on a classic Pisco Sour or a Chilcano while waiting for the first course?
As for dessert, we couldn´t miss out, we gave it all! The Lemon pie and Choco Suspiro, sweet and heavenly like. Portions are generous so don’t nibble too much before you arrive!
