Ukai, Japanese restaurant, Eixample

I visited Japanese restaurant Ukai on C/Mallorca between Aribau and Muntaner. Not to be mistaken for its sister restaurant with the same name, to enjoy their cuisine!

From the street, you can see into the restaurant as it´s below the ground floor, a couple of quick steps and you’re in. The decoration is clean and inviting with wooden décor combined with black and red paint. Space is divided into rooms with individual tables for two or four. Or long wooden tables for groups and high bar tables with a more intimate feel.

We arrived early at Ukai and there was only one other table busy, as the time past by the restaurant filled up. Yet being busy the level of noise was very low, which is always something one wishes for in this town once in a while.

There’s a wide selection of dishes to chose from on the menu. For starter, we decided on the classic Miso soup and Edamame prepared with star anise.

The third plate we decided to share between us was the classic Yakisoba, noodles with vegetables, meat and Japanese sauce.
To round it up we tried their mixed plate Ukai Setto with Sahimi, Nigiris and Makis, the salmon Sashimi melted like butter on my tongue!

We skipped dessert as we could get another bite down. The portions are good sized, but I did see a few sweets on the menu I would like to try on my next visit!

With more than 20 years of experience of the Japanese kitchen, they know the importance of working with fresh quality ingredients. Which gives the food its great flavours.

The service at Ukai was fast professional and helpful, a great all over experience!
